The climate change across the globe, affected the availability of food. This situation has created hunger across the borders. According to a report released by the Oxfam Media, extreme climate crisis is the major reason that have worsened the living conditions of people. And it also increased the number of people suffering acute hunger. Global warming has been affecting the nature in the worst possible ways. And if not taken seriously, the inhabitors of Earth may have to pay a greater price for it. It has worsened the climatic conditions around the world. One third of the Pakistan is flooded, Somalia is experiencing the worst drought for 40 years.
The report by Oxfam Media is based on the research at the 10 of the worst affected climate hotspots around the world. They are Somalia Haiti, Djibouti, Kenya, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Guatemala, Madagascar, Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe. According to the report, nearly 18 million people in these countries are on the verge of starvation. The total number of people suffering acute hunger have increased from 21.3 million to 47.5 million in the last six years. In Kenya, Somalia, Madagascar and Zimbabwe extreme weather conditions were the primary reason of acute hunger.
How global warming is increasing hunger globally
The report also indicates that the effect of climate change is not same for all. It hits the disadvantaged people the hardest. The people belonging to the racial minorities, women, small-scale farmers and agricultural workers are affected by global warming in the worst way. Furthermore, it has also widened the global inequality gap. Global warming has threatened the meals of many around the world.
The UN and the Oxfam have been calling on the governments around the world to take actions to fight the climate change and help the worst affected people.
- Other than reducing the carbon emissions, the rich polluting nations are asked to compensate the low-income countries for the damages and losses they caused them due to climate change. Also, to cancel the debts of the poor countries and prepare them for climatic shocks.
