Cyber crimes have increased from 385 in 2015 to 2037 in 2021 in Odisha, according to a report on The Times of India.

Cyber crimes have become so common these days that everyone of us do know a victim of cyber fraud. They can be found in our families, neighbors, friends, etc. It won’t be wrong to say that almost every mobile user is at high risk of some kind of cyber crime.

For an instance, almost every Whatsapp user has atleast once received a message from an unknown number. TO Tell them that they’ve won the KBC lottery. They have been asked to tap on the link given in the text or to call them on WhatsApp only. Many people fall into this trap. And given their banking information to the scammers and hence lose all of their money.

The scammers have found out some way or the other in almost every social media platform to scam people into losing their money. This has made people vulnerable to getting scammed very easily. The most recent one is on Instagram. In this, the scammers hack into your Instagram account and change it’s credentials so that you can’t use that anymore. It us more like they steal your ID on Instagram. After which they post things like looking for investors to invest money into crypto. And people who are not aware of this scam give their bank account details to them. To prevent such a situation, Instagram users are advised to switch on their “Two-Factor-Authentication”. This would provide extra security to the users.

Cyber Crimes can be checked if the government properly regulates the sale of sim cards. Scammers purchase the pre-activated sim cards using forged documents to commit crimes.
