Tokyo: Pooja Rani and Deepika Kumari continued their remarkable form in Tokyo Olympics and made their way to the next round in their respective events.
Deepika Kumari defeated Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez of the USA by 6-4 and booked a place in the pre-quarterfinals of women’s individual archery whereas in boxing Pooja Rani defeated Ichark Chaib of Algeria 5-0 in the Round of 16 and advanced to the last 8 of the women’s Middle (69-75 kg) category.
According to the Olympics’ official website, Kumari’s match is scheduled for July 29. The only Indian woman to represent Tokyo Olympics and No. 1 world archer has much hope for a gold medal.
Pooja Rani, the reigning Asian champion, won a unanimous decision against her Algerian opponent to bring the medal closer to India. Next in the quarter-finals, she faces Chinese Li Qian. To defeat the Chinese world champion, Rani must put her best performance.
