Two years after the epidemic and the termination of J&K’s special status in August 2019 the Amarnath Yatra was started on June 30 and it is supposed to last up to August 11. But with the turn of an unfortunate event, a sudden flash flood caused by the cloudburst has led to huge damage to life and nature.
On Friday, July 8, at about 5:30 pm, a cloudburst with heavy rain struck the area. According to the latest report by the officials, at least 16 people have died, and 15,000 pilgrims who were stuck due to a flash flood brought on by a cloudburst near the Amarnath holy cave in Jammu and Kashmir have been relocated to the lower base camp of Panjtarni.
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) spokesperson stated “Most of the pilgrims, who were stranded near the holy cave shrine area due to the flash flood that occurred Friday evening, have been shifted to Panjtarni. The evacuation continued till 3.38 am.”
“No pilgrim is left on the track. About 15,000 people have been safely shifted till now” he further added.
According to one of the latest reports shared by the ANI, the rescue operation is in progress in the cloudburst-affected area in Amarnath Cave.
On Friday, prominent politicians expressed their sorrow over the deaths caused by the Amarnath event.
