human development index

What is Human Development Index (HDI)?

The Human Development Index (HDI) measures long and healthy life, knowledge, and a good level of living are three essential aspects of human development in a summary form. The normalized indices for each of the three dimensions’ geometric means make up the HDI. The HDI underline and considers people and their potential in first place. Rather than relying solely on economic growth to gauge a nation’s development.

The UNDP stated in a statement: “On the 2021/22 Human Development Index, tracking the global fall in human development, India ranks 132 out of 191 countries and territories.”

The statement read, “Human Development Index values have decreased in 90% of nations in 2020 or 2021, reversing much of the progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.”

A major factor in the recent dip in the Human Development Index is a decrease in life expectancy over the world, which fell from 72.8 years in 2019 to 71.4 years in 2021. When catastrophes like COVID-19 and the Ukraine War struck back-to-back and combined with wide-ranging social and economic transformations and perilous planetary changes, the last two years had a terrible effect on billions of people globally, the statement added.
