The entire world is suffering due to climate change. Starting from floods, landslides, wildfires, droughts and storms to intense heat waves in numerous parts of the world. Like every other country, India is also facing the damages caused by climate change. Let’s understand climate change and its result of extreme weather conditions in India.
The increasing repercussions of climate change in the world
The latest reports from the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change have proved that climate change has played a huge role in the harmful weather events all over the world. The entire world is suffering due to climate change. Starting from floods, landslides, wildfires, droughts and storms to intense heat waves in numerous parts of the world. Ben Clarke, an author from the Oxford University stated that the lower- and middle-income countries are harder hit by these extreme weather conditions. Today, lets talk about one such country, India.
Is India bearing the brunt of this climate change too?
Like every other country, India is also facing the damages made from climate change. The past few weeks have been especially difficult for many states in India. The clearest proof of climate change that India has experienced is the unusual rise of temperatures especially in Central and Northern parts of the country. This has led to people falling ill severely and even die.
States that are currently facing life threatening situations
Starting off with Manipur that has been hard hit by a landslide which had led to the death of 7 people and 45 people are missing. This unfortunate incident happened due to continuous rains. The landslide has caused more harm than we can imagine like it has destroyed the railway track that was in progress and has also destroyed the places where the construction workers lived in.
Coming to Assam that has been facing severe floods due to nonstop rain. This flood in Assam has led to more than 100 people losing their lives and more than 20 lakh people continue to be affected by it.
Similarly, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have been suffering due to continuous and heavy rains leading to the IMD [Indian Meteorological Department] announcing a moderate to high risk of floods in these states.
We are in a mess created by ourselves
The way the climate has been changing in the past few years, whatever is happening in India and the world today does not come to us a complete shock. We cannot deny that we are also responsible for all these events. This was a mess that we humans created, and now we are the only one paying for it. The threat of Climate Change is not a hoax.
