How does plastic cause irreplaceable harm to the environment?
The issue of pollution in the world which is a growing concern with every passing day has many root causes. One of the biggest causes of pollution is the usage of plastic. Plastic, once thrown away affects the environment, humans, flora and fauna for ages to come. The rate at which plastic impacts our environment and us is beyond our imagination.
Implementation of the plastic waste management amendment 2021
In August 2021 the ministry of environment, forest and climate change came up with the much-needed plastic waste management amendment whose main aim was to ban the usage of single use plastic that harm and damage the environment. This amendment strictly mentioned that any company or business that deals with plastic will have to reduce and remove the production, usage and sale of plastic. Another notable change under this amendment was the change in the thickness of the plastic carry bags. The thickness was changed from 50 microns to 75 microns and then finally to 120 microns. The objective behind this was to reduce littering with light plastic carry on.
Rajasthan government’s admirable work with the amendment
Rajasthan government has decided to implement the plastic waste management amendment from July 1st 2022 where items that include plastic will be banned strictly. Not abiding by the rules will lead to heavy penalty, suspension of license and imprisonment. The penalties start from Rs. 500 for the first offense, Rs. 1000 for the second offense and Rs. 2000 for the third time. The manufacturing units will be closed down and if production still continues heavy penalty will also be imposed on the manufacturer. The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board Department has said that if any unit is still found producing any single use plastic item, then their trade licenses shall be cancelled immediately.
One step at a time is all we need
Reaching every milestone requires sustainable plans and implementation. One step at a time is all we need to reach the goal. Curing a huge issue like this will definitely take time, but hopefully the world will see a plastic free environment someday and that will need work and as long we as a team are doing our part? That day is not far away.
